How do you approach world-building in your WiP?
Of course for those of us writing fanfic, the answer is usually fairly simple (one of the joys of fanfic!), though if you're doing something in an AU or canon-divergence it can be a little more complex. Giving enough information about how the AU works and how it's different from the main canon can bee an interesting challenge!
For my book, my sister is reading the chapters as I go along, and that's useful because she doesn't know much about wrestling or its history, so keeping her in mind lets me know when I need to slow down and explain why X character showing up means that things are about to go badly, etc. I wrote about 2,000 words yesterday! I'm putting aside 3-4 hours a day right now because I really need to get done (or as close as possible) before classes start next month. I hope things are going well for your writing too!

Date: 2024-03-18 10:19 pm (UTC)Since my current WIP is an AU, I did have to weigh on how to deal with canon incidents, since I had Lois's ship crash in Smallvile (in retrospect, I should've had the crash happen elsewhere) but didn't have her grow up there. Since it isn't totally relevant, I just handwaved a lot and focused on the present and figured no one would really ask "but what about x or why?"

Date: 2024-03-21 12:04 pm (UTC)In my Edwardian AU, Bruce is still the Prince of Gotham, has the same history, etc. Bruce isn't quite as driven as 'our' Bruce but is still manipulative.
Dick is a different story. While he still tragically loses his parents he becomes a ballet dancer in Europe before he comes to America with Bruce. Dick is more guarded in this AU but still comes across as a sunny personality. 😍
Aren't sisters the best? ☺️
