--How do you feel about smut?

I'm very pro-smut! But I've discovered I have a hard time writing it in longer, plottier stories, especially those that aren't romances. I suspect that's because plot developments don't often take place during smut scenes (unlike in a romance, where of course sex scenes can provide really key relational development) and so it feels kind of...extraneous? I find it a lot easier to write in one-shots, somehow...

In writing, I have a one-shot story and a chapter done and betaed and ready to post, whoo! However, I'm not posting them because I'm getting on an intercontinental flight in twelve hours and I don't like to leave comments entirely untouched for so long... But it feels really good to have some writing done and ready to post, that's for sure! How about you?

Sorry, this one came during the worst week, so I am late to the party.

I love smut, reading and writing it, but I wrestle with a lot of guilt about it. Though I am trying to smother those attitudes, I had a lot of anti-sex rearing, and in my creative writing classes the students who wanted to write either porn or romance weren't treated like serious writers. So, I have come around to doing it in my original fiction rather late, and it carries this stigma in my mind, like I am written fan fiction of my own works rather than doing something legitimate. I need a lot of help getting away from that attitude. I think it would take a gargantuan effort for me to write a pure romance, even though thematically it is my favorite to write, because it has been so thoroughly hammered into me that it is "just fluff", and smut even lesser.

Bad week, for writing and in general. I have two creative tasks before me that eclipse my fiction writing for now: I need to write our next D&D campaign, and I am being forced to write a poem against my will (for the memorial service).

Ugh, can I just pause to say that having to write a poem to demand, especially for something that sad, is a serious drain and very difficult.

I have tried very hard to write some porn in the past specifically because I know it's so devalued and I think that's awful! I haven't lived up to that recently, I will have to fix that. :)
