--Why did you choose this particular setting (the time, place, era of canon, etc.) for your current WiP?

I had a variety of choices for timing on my current wrestling-based WiP, but I chose to move it back in time a little bit to cover Jan-Feb of this year... specifically because I wanted to be able to avoid much discussion of COVID-19 in the fic. It's an exchange gift, and no one wants to read a lot about coronavirus in their gift! But wrestling has been badly effected by the virus (no audiences, no traveling) and those effects are in the fictional world as well as the real world, so... kind of unavoidable. So I moved it back a little in time, and I'm enjoying the chance to just... ignore it for a bit.

I finished another story and got about 200 words into this one, which doesn't sound like a lot, but is better than I've been doing for a looooong time, so I'm going to enjoy it. Where and when are you settling things in your work right now, and why?

Since I've been watching The Alienist: Angel Of Darkness, I've been working on stories in that fandom. The setting is the 1890s (canon), so it gives me opportunity to do some fun research and continue the study of John and Sara's marriage (my idea, since I don't know if they will eventually marry in canon).

My current almost-completed WIP is set in its particular world because a friend of mine was joking around about The Curse of the Blank Page and how cats make sure you can't write and it combined strangely with the setting in my head. It turned into a mystery with books going magically blank and a particular mama cat and her kittens being the key to getting the contents of the books back. It's a fun little novella that I really want to finish soon.

I so hear you on the Covid stuff. It's really hard to write anything set in current life / events because of all of that. I'd've shifted things back too, if I were you!

Different things I'm working on.

So for one I'm choosing the far future of canon, as I'm speculating a bit on where characters will end up after the adventuring is over and that maybe some of the expected pairings will turn into unexpected marriages or partnerships years down the line. We got a similar fast forwarding for the first part of canon and it's just fun to speculate and explore the idea that people will grow into with the individual journey's we know they are already on.

For another one it's a bit more tricky. I need to pick a point in canon when the characters know the right things and are in conflict with each other and there are only a couple of times I can think of that work, but I haven't figured out the right time line for the fic plot yet. So instead I'm canon reviewing some more.
