Apr. 10th, 2020 11:26 am--Is writing your full-time career? Or would you like it to be?
You know, I've always said that I wouldn't even want writing to be my full-time career, that I prefer it stay a hobby. But with things so uncertain, I've got an offer to write an article for The Ringer, which is a sports/entertainment news site, and... I'm going to take it, because it might not be a bad idea to have a portfolio of writing in case I lose my job. It's very unlikely! But I'm very uneasy.
Plus, with the level of social distancing currently in place, the number of face to face interactions I'll have to have seems pretty minimal...
How's everyone's employment situation holding up? And also how's the writing going?

Writing is going very slowly for me. All the pressure and worries from C19 have made it hard to focus. I am doing a bunch of watercolor though. I've got postcard sized watercolor paper and I've been doing one a day as a practice and play around with it thing. Amazingly, practice actually does help, just like all the instructors I've ever had claimed it would. /self-directed sarcasm.
My company produces raw materials for medical supplies so we're doing very well. I'm working from home. Starting next week I'll be going into the office 1 day a week. Better, my husband still has his job too so we're doing just fine financially.
So very ready for the social distancing thing to be done though... *sigh*

Fanfic-wise, I've had a spurt of creativity. I have nearly a dozen stories now in my posting queue. :)

Date: 2020-05-03 02:17 pm (UTC)I do non-fiction writing for the job and even attended workshops to get better at it. Ficiton writing is still firmly a hobby and I don't aim to make it a job now or in the foreseeable future.
I'm in the privileged position to have a secure job and don't face any salary cuts because of the current situation. On the other hand, everyone keeps telling me they have so much more free time and my job is as busy as always if not more busy right now.
