I got some writing done! Not much, but it was good. I am really hoping to get this series completed by the end of the year and maybe even start on a new story? Hopefully not a series, though...

--What was your current WiP's protagonist’s past like?

I have two protagonists, really, but the one whose head I'm in at the moment grew up a fair-skinned, red-headed Muslim in Quebec. He's talked about how he had the experience of standing out and feeling like an outsider within his family community, which I think is a big part of why he grew up to be very reticent and fiercely protective of his privacy--but really gregarious and affectionate once he feels like you're in his inner trusted circle. He's fun to write, basically!

How was your latest protagonist's childhood and how has it affected them?

Oh, it's MCU Tony right now. So he was both treated like a wunderkind, had a loving mother, but a cold father who criticized him more than he knew to show his approval. He always had a public face and the quieter private and in the workshop face only some people got to see and by now he spent years trying to fix himself, be a team player, get over his own demons - and hey, be a hero and do good.

It's fun to write the different layers and engage with the growth there.

Oooooh, MCU Tony and his father-based difficulties are always so fascinating to me! His cathartic scene with his dad in the past felt quite pat, and yet... I really appreciated it anyway.

Clark Kent! He had two of the best parents in the history of the world, learned how to control his powers, and had as normal a childhood as possible in his situation. Too bad Bruce Wayne wasn't my current character. Talk about a name being shorthand! ;)

Writing's pretty low-key right now due to an upheaval in my private life this week. Sometimes I get so tired of this stuff. :(

God, I feel you, and I do hope things got ironed out and you got some time SOMEWHERE without more being added!

I... I am not even sure who my current POV is right now. I tend to go for characters that have sad pasts, Saitou, Sanosuke, Loki, Batman. Thor and Clark are kind of the odd-balls of my usual cast, but even Thor kind of has... I dunno, not sad, but a hard past, it's not easy growing up with the expectation of being king, no matter how enigmatic your smile is or how magnetic your personality. And then there's Clark. He was of course found by the best two people on Earth that just loved him no matter what he was. <3

I'm fighting depression really hard right now and though I keep writing, even a few words a day, it's really not enough. I had a good lead for NaNo, and now I am totally behind. =/ I just... Really do not want to write right now.

I do love "sunny character with a melancholy streak" so much! I like versions of Clark that have some of that same melancholy--last survivor, growing up unsure about who you are and how dangerous you might be, and all that.
