--Do you try more to be original or to deliver to readers what they want?

This question on the list made me laugh and I couldn't resist putting it here, because I have zero interest in being original! But at the same time I don't particularly worry about giving readers what they want? The big advantage of fanfic for me is that I don't have to focus on either of those things, I can write whatever cliched trope I enjoy. For me the challenge is seeing if I can execute a cliche in a way that's fun to write and also fun to read.

And I'm having a lot of fun with vampire fic right now, and also with the nonfiction! The nonfiction is an interesting case because I'm writing up a history of my two favorite wrestlers (and have been for more than a year now) and it's clear that fanfic has really been excellent preparation for it? A lot of the (non-slash, of course) ideas and emotions I explored in fic about them have slipped into the history at some level and made it a lot stronger, I think. I only have one more essay to go in it and I am suffering horrible separation anxiety, I have to confess! It's been such a fun project, my faves have gotten a lot of pleasure from it, and I am not sure what I'm going to do with myself when it's done.

Haha, yeah, wow, that is a fun question.

I think I'm the same. I feel like exciting writing often lives of the pastiche, the homages and "retelling" that I'm not even sure being focused on being original is all that important. But I'm also not particularly interested to write what I think readers want to read.

I'm to busy to write what I want to read - and that can be the same trope explored over and over.

What you're saying there about cliched tropes there makes so much sense. As long as I like the cliche I don't mind doing it or reading it again and it can be so much fun to develop stories around them.

I'm writing in a post-Infinity War haze still that has kept me going for a couple of weeks now. ;D It's been very productive!

Haha, that's funny indeed. XD But, heyyyyyy, we are all living lives.

Oh, actually pretty much all Steve/Tony fans I talk to loved it. It was absolutely delicious. If by not kind you mean that the ships that are endgame (in Endgame haha) are others that's actually in line with the "Love we never got right" pining trope that the MCU has been playing out for most of us. For me personally it was the ending I hoped for especially for Tony — and now there's the whole of the new MCU!Multiverse that Doctor Strange hinted at before to play in. That is much much kinder than the years of never letting the Avengers be friends at all were ^^

I am writing RBB fics at the moment, but I'm also trying to channel all my Endgame feelings...
