Oct. 14th, 2016 09:09 am--Do you have a guilty pleasure in fic (reading or writing)?
Only in the sense that I refuse to feel guilty about them. :D But almost everything I enjoy writing is self-indulgent and tropey in some way, most of it holdovers from reading every Regency Romance in my small town library in high school: pining, misunderstandings, stoically suffering characters with secret hearts of gold, playing with identity, "happy ever after" endings, swoony first times.
Speaking of which, I just finished up my longish moviefic which has spoonfuls of the last two, yay! And am re-committing to trying to write mostly one-shots in comic book fandom, since I'm apparently still pretty burnt out about writing longer stories. We'll see how long that resolution lasts...
Oh, and is anyone doing Yuletide and/or NaNo? I got my Yuletide assignment and am psyched and will probably be writing them a treat to boot, so that's good!

Date: 2016-10-15 02:29 am (UTC)This week has been much lower word count--I was just too busy at work to get any real writing time in. On the other hand, I'm actually learning as I practice watercolor. It's fun painting a quick little sketch each day. Except yesterday's sketch has gotten three go-overs and I'm still tweaking it and having fun painting on it. It's turning out really pretty though so I'm happy. Amazing what actually practicing will do for a skill! *very big grin*
I won't be doing NaNo but that's because my goal right now is to write every single day and generally I'm doing more than what NaNo requires. Plus I've almost got the publishing business going. I'm going to be getting the domain name and website hosting this weekend *crosses fingers* which means I have lots and lots of work to do reformatting old stuff that's... very not up to snuff on the format side of things. Progress always seems to bring more work with it. But it's progress so I can't complain too much.
Good luck on your Yuletide!

Date: 2016-10-17 03:08 am (UTC)That's the nice thing about reaching a certain age (which can be any age depending on who you are!), being like "Hey, I'm old enough to know I don't need your approval, hah."
Learning an art is such a cool and good idea! I get discouraged so easily when I'm not at least competent at something immediately, and that's a tendency I need to overcome.
Haha, you're the only person I know in the world who skips NaNo because it would be a reduction in word count! :D So awesome.
