Jul. 8th, 2016 09:25 am--What did you learn from the WiPs you're working on?
Let's see... from one I learned that I like writing moody atmospheric pieces, but I find it hard to write without a traditional plot of some sort to hang the atmospherics on. From another I learned that I can have fun writing a pairing that breaks up my OTP as long as I don't do it for too long (usually that is just flatly not possible for me, an OTP is an OTP is an OTP) but I have to keep kicking the neglected member of the pairing in the face to keep him from busting into the story and taking over. Annnnd I think from the third I learned that there are ways to talk about the frisson between the combative fiction of wrestling and the cooperative reality of wrestling without it becoming RPF, but it takes some work. None of these are important life lessons, but I think that's fine! How about you guys? And how goes the week?

Date: 2016-07-08 04:27 am (UTC)In the second one I'm working on now they're both rather formal and it's harder. So I'm going to have to go back and add some verbal tics to one of the characters to distinguish him. But it's not that big of an edit and I think it'll help the storytelling, too, so it's all good.
The week has gone well! I was off in Montana visiting my mother from Saturday through Wednesday, which was fun. I only got about 500 words per day but I was glad to manage that much. Now I'm back and scrambling to get this week (actually last week's) novel ready for publication. About 2/3 there so I should make it as long as I get the time tomorrow. And hopefully I'll be able to ramp the word count up again since 500 words/day feels horribly low to me.
Good luck with your writing!

Date: 2016-07-11 05:05 am (UTC)Distinctive voices is hard! Writing Clark and Bruce is always rather a challenge in that area because they've got pretty similar ways of talking, so they can blur together if I'm not careful. It's always fun to think of subtle difference in ways they'd express themselves...
