Sep. 25th, 2015 11:23 am--What are three songs that are on heavy rotation for writing-inspiring purposes right now?
Let's see, picking three at random from my "Writing playlists," we have...
Jaymes Young, "Moondust," Yeah I'm living far away, on the face of the moon/ I've buried my love to give the world to you
Fun., "Some Nights," But I still wake up, I still see your ghost / Oh, Lord, I'm still not sure what I stand for, oh
Hozier, "Take me to Church," Offer me that deathless death / Good God, let me give you my life
So yeah, definite theme of regret there, huh? Even when I'm writing happy things, I really like listening to bittersweet songs... Not usually WHILE writing, but I have playlists that I play now and then while doing other things that I kind of feel make things percolate and simmer better... Tell me what you've got and I'll make myself a "Other people's inspiring songs" playlist for my weekend!
I have a self-imposed deadline coming up for a series this weekend and so I ended up sitting down yesterday and writing about 3,000 words in a desperate flurry--but it went well and I'll make that deadline! How about you?

Date: 2015-09-25 02:55 am (UTC)This week's been absolutely terrible for writing. Work was super busy and then my computer's hard drive might be going. It lost my USB driver which had to be reinstalled. And as I have all my current writing files on that USB it kind of stopped me dead in the water. It's back up now but I spent all evening backing files up to my shiny new external 1TB hard drive. *pets it*
The hubby is hoping to put off buying me a new computer (Microsoft Surface Pro! 8D) for at least a couple to four months or so. We'll see. I'm not convinced the hard drive on my laptop is going to make it that long.
*sad sigh*
So yeah, not much progress this week. No chance of catching up this weekend either as the hubby and I are going to a Steampunk convention. That should be fun. Or annoying. We're not sure which yet. It's our first time going and they seem... very disorganized. *worried look at their website*
Anyway, good on you for the big chunk of writing! I'm hopeful to get another chapter done tomorrow but who knows? Depends on whether work continues super busy or not.
Hope you have a great week!

Date: 2015-09-26 05:41 am (UTC)Oh no, oh nooooo. But yay for those giant hard drives, I know well what a lifesaver they can be! I'm shuddering at the idea of losing all those files...
I have a Surface Pro and I like it a LOT, actually! So I can rec it when you do finally give in and get one. :)
I hope the convention went great for you and wasn't annoying--it sounds good in theory at least...
(And oh wow, I need a whole writing playlist of Audiomachine, obviously. I LOVE music that sounds like it could be a soundtrack to what I'm writing without actually being connected to an actual movie, and this is great! *puts Phenomena on repeat as well*)

Date: 2015-09-25 11:33 pm (UTC)You know me. You know I'm going to answer this with more than three. You knew this to be inevitable XD Asking me anything about music is dangerous.
I'm trying to get myself to love a new band, who are similar to Nightwish but who have treated their lady singers better, called Amberian Dawn.
Songs I have not been able to stop listening to are:
The Court of Mirror Hall (https://www.youtube.com/watch?t=249&v=dYxw1bI6rnY), which I love for being a pure feminine fantasy about getting married at a mystical masked ball, and the reason I ended up googling carnival masks at an obscene hour of the night. Unfortunately, not yet released, so I've been playing the youtube video over and over.
Memorial (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=esSPDO2wLs0), I wish the male singer on this track was a permanent member and not a guest. Because GUH. Metal is FULL of songs that are female opera singer paired with a male rock singer, this song has a male opera singer with a female rock singer, and I am 100000% here for it.
Magic Forest (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xNs8Z6W7Y8Y)
Come Now Follow (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oUAuu9h5eFs)
Cold Kiss (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pYQrEVHUIPo)
And while I am enjoying them...they are not doing what Nightwish always did for me, which was fill me with inspiration and make me itch to write. I've written more stories inspired by a single Nightwish album than I have any other music combined, so they're a hard act to replace.
Other songs that have been my everything lately, despite them not really pushing me to writing greatness:
This mash up of Lady Gaga and Judas Priest, which is possibly the greatest thing I've ever experienced in my ears: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q-ZlRl1_4Ws
A band I like, The 69 Eyes, their lead singer has started a rockabilly side project called The 69 Cats, and this is their cover of People Are Strange: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BwiG_6NLkPw
And, most prominent in my feelings lately, having caused me to break down crying, I Have a Right by Sonata Arctica: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sue_ufnvqcs
