 --What research rabbit hole have you fallen down for this story, and what unexpected discoveries did you make?

I think most of my research so far has been on Thunderbird myths in the different Native American tribes in the Kansas area (which has been fun!) I love that touch from the Gaslight series that Clark is connected to the Thunderbird and was in some way mentored by Black Condor (and I also learned there have been three Black Condors and the first two were white guys!)

What research have you been doing, whether it's into illnesses, flowers, New York or Edwardian times?

Well, most of my research lately has been checking out things during the early '60s and 1908. I want to be as historically accurate as possible, and while I wouldn't mind taking some artistic license, I prefer to be accurate.

I also did some research about the days just before World War I for my current Bruce/Dick novel. It was like a line of dominoes falling: one country declared war, an ally supported them, the opponent's ally declared war, and so on. What a mess, especially when you consider the carnage to come.

Unexpected discoveries? Possibly the intricacy of the alliances that led to World War I. I was aware of the alliances, but they sure were interlocking! Washington was right about entangling alliances. 😎

Yes! That's such a horrible sequence when you read all the details, how inexorable it all was once it got started, how helpless everyone felt to prevent it. Really scary stuff! (But fascinating to research!)

I've been looking into flowers for my hanahaki fic, but also lately, I've been researching Russian love quotes and poetry. I have gotten into Heated Rivalry in these past few months and I had this idea for a (very self indulgent) social media fic where one half of the ship (who is Russian canonically) is pining after the other while he's dating someone else and is randomly posting quotes.

PLEASE GIVE ME ALL THE ILYA PINING FOR SHANE FIC, lol. I love that idea, him using Russian poetry and quotes to express himself obliquely. Seriously, I would love a link when it gets to posting-time! Heated Rivalry has so much fic that I haven't even dipped my toe into reading it, but I want to!

Look, the Rose Landry era may have been short but Ilya's pining/feelings over it is SO fun to play around with. :D :D :D And true! There are so many fics, like, over 30k already so it can be daunting to start for sure. The amount of work people put in to in these social media fics, with the HMTL and editing is really impressive too. I think wanting to do something similar with the formatting may take me the longest. And ngl, at the end of the day, I'm using this as an excuse for Shane to finally come back with the Persuasion quote (I have loved none but you. Unjust I may have been, weak and resentful I have been, but never inconstant). This all is OOC but I'm fine with that. If I get it done, I will definitely share though! :D
