 --How has writing this story changed your understanding of human nature or relationships?

Hmmm, my writing is definitely not at that stage yet. Writing in general has really pushed me to think about the different ways people approach relationships and communication within them--I guess specifically, people's reactions to my stories have sometimes expanded my worldview, you know? Sometimes there are people who are really confused about how I write conflict and communication, and it's been very eye-opening.

I know there are some really interesting stories out there about human nature and relationships and what they require, so I'm curious to know what has expanded your worldviews!

With AU Dick, it's the need for purpose and direction, just like 'our' Dick.

After his parents' deaths, he might have drifted. Just note how many careers he's had in 'our' universe: policeman, curator, and so on. He has a tendency to wander. Maybe he would have stayed with the circus. Who knows?

But Bruce and the Batman gave him purpose and a home, with generations of stability. So I would say that it's an interesting facet of human nature: someone as brilliant and amazing as Dick still needing that sense of purpose.

He does have a tendency to switch jobs a lot (he's been a spy and a philanthropist in canon now!) That's a really interesting facet of his character, isn't it?

It's not something I really think about, especially with the genres I usually focus in. I don't really see the relationships that I write as a reflection of real life dynamics and vice versa. My current fic has made me examine complicated parent-child dynamics in a way I don't, especially when I'm such a fan of the parent, and how people can do their best but get lost in their own struggle and not see what is there. I am better about this now but I can default into looking at relationships as black and white and this does serve as a reminder that it's all a bit more grey.

Like you, I don't tend to write too many relationships similar to ones in my life, except in the most abstract of ways (co-working partners? I... guess?) I can find things, but I'm definitely not reflecting my own life very much.
