Open Thread: Oracle Hotline

We've talked about the setting of your latest work, how about a plot? What's the basic story of what you're writing and where do you think it's going?

I confess the plot of the fic I'm working on is remaining stubbornly vague! A sea-dwelling person (like Aquaman but less human, more sharky) gets turned into a human and has to deal with trying to pass as a human when she doesn't know how to do that... but what's the McGuffin that turned her human? And what is trying achieve while human? I suppose they could be connected, she's looking for whatever turned her human to get herself back to normal of course... I just have to figure out why someone would do that, lol. There's got to be a reason! I hope your plot is being less stubborn than mine!

Plot, what plot? ☺️

Your plot is cool! And one of these days I should get back to Shutter Island. 🕋

Hmm, one of my current stories is the mental hospital story. It's set in the Naked City fandom, an unusual police show that aired in the early 1960s.

Adam's partner Frank is killed while they're chasing a murderer and Adam mentally breaks down. Not too farfetched as in the series Frank is shot and seriously wounded and Adam loses it, not as dramatically as in my story but for a guy who's supposed to be a tough NYPD cop, he's really off the rails.

The story focuses on Adam in the mental hospital and how love can be a lifeline (the story is m/m). Guilt is a major factor (he's shown as guilt-prone in the show) and there's more to the story, which is revealed in later chapters.

There's my plot! ☺️

So far so good! There are some nice moments of subtext between these characters in the show (touches, looks, pet names, lol!). Not exactly as blatant as Starsky & Hutch, but there's some really good stuff there.
