Since my current WIP is an AU, I did have to weigh on how to deal with canon incidents, since I had Lois's ship crash in Smallvile (in retrospect, I should've had the crash happen elsewhere) but didn't have her grow up there. Since it isn't totally relevant, I just handwaved a lot and focused on the present and figured no one would really ask "but what about x or why?"
