--How do you deal with poor reviews?

See, with fanfic "poor reviews" tend to not be very constructive, so there's rarely much to take away from them other than "this person really disapproves of slash" or "this person really hates Character X." I tend to chew over bad reviews, even that kind, more than I should--and eventually just forget them and move on. There usually isn't much I could do to accommodate them besides deleting the fic!

I got writing done this week! Just 400 words or so, but it was a lovely feeling. And writing Clark and Bruce again, albeit a gender-bent Clark! Like wearing a comfy pair of slippers. My online classes start Monday so maybe once I get the desperate prepping done (they went online abruptly!) I'll be able to do some more! I hope things are good with you as well, in writing and in life...

My reviews are so rare that I just shrug and say 'not to their taste' and walk on. Even for original fic, there really isn't much to say about poor reviews other than 1) not to their taste, 2) huh, need to work on that or 3) eh, that's a reader issue not a writer issue. Such as they expected X and got Y instead despite the blurb and genre and so forth.

I've been getting writing done too. I'm trying to ramp back up from 500 words a day to 1300 words as my goal. Mixed success on that. I'm having great jobs of success with the watercolor anyway. I'm doing MerMay and bunny-ing myself with a new story in the process.

Yay for gender-bent Clark! Especially Clark & Bruce. Good luck with your class and getting more writing done!

Like you, sometimes bad reviews bother me, but sometimes I'm able to brush past them and forget about it. I guess it depends on my mood that particular day. Luckily I don't get many of them! :)

Coming close to the end of a long fanfic which I've been working on since stay-at-home started. It's always a feeling of great accomplishment when you finish something long and complicated! :)

Hmm, I feel like I rarely get "poor reviews", I would call them the occsional unhappy comment. :P Maybe when someone does it in a bookmark it gets closer to a review but I don't look at those. In comments it tends to be more, "telling you what I want to see in fandom as opposed to what you wrote" and it's very rarely consturcitve or about the work itself, more about a diference in opinion and the inability to grasp that there are opinions and not "one true facts about this character/canon/trope" involved.

Strange comments have picked up for me over the last couple of years, and it depends very much on the place I'm in when I get them how deep they cut or not. I've learned to step away from them and let them sit for as long as I need to and then find they have no long lasting impact in the end and like you forget about them and move on.

There usually isn't much I could do to accommodate them besides deleting the fic!

Haha, true. Or in some cases rewrite something 6 years after you dropped out of the fandom. :P

Writing is slowly picking up for me again, but not sure I want to post anything right now. I'm in that nice space where I write for me and share it with friends, and that's all I care about right now. So maybe one day I all dump it on AO3 at the same time. ^^;

Good luck on that Clark and Bruce story. That sounds intirguing. <3

Anf good luck with class prepartions and online classes working without a hitch.
