Sep. 14th, 2018 08:59 am--Do you Google yourself?
I kind of liked this question, though it scans a little differently for fanfic writers than for actual published authors!
I try to resist the temptation, but one every few months or so I do give in and poke around to see if anyone is talking about me. The last time I got exactly what I expected--some people scoffing at how earnest, overrated and over-invested I was--so I was reminded of why I try not to do it too often... :D (I am at the very least earnest and over-invested, so I can't really argue with that!)
What are you working on this week? What's caught your attention? I'm still struggling with my vampire fic a bit; I am not in a great place for writing smut and that's what's coming up! I keep stalling and hoping I'll be in a better place for it soon...

Date: 2018-09-14 02:21 am (UTC)I haven't googled myself since I started writing original fic, mostly because I know (from my very small sales) that I'm just not going to be a blip on the google radar. Maybe someday but not yet. Probably not though. Unless I get a sudden spike in sales, like into the thousands of dollars out of nowhere. Then I'll check it out.
*rolls my eyes* Seriously, people will complain about everything. Your earnestness and love for your fandoms is what I like about you! Since when did it become fashionable to be all meh about the things you love? Sounds like teenagers trying too hard to be cool to me and since I'm turning 51 next week, I'm so very over trying to be cool. I'm just out here having fun and loving things.
I just finished the novella that I was working on last week! It turned out sweet and lovely and I even managed to get a sex scene in though writing a sex scene between one person who's missing a leg and another person who's deaf, at night in a dark room, was a challenge I didn't expect to set for myself. But I think the scene works and the story works, too, so I'm happy.
Good luck on your vampire fic! Sometimes you just have to dive in and cringe as you write the smut. I certainly did with my sex scene. After a bit it smoothed out and everything was fine. Here's hoping yours will too!

Date: 2018-09-14 07:34 pm (UTC)Whelp I just did that and all that pops up are things I've posted. Some of them eons old. LOL I'm not terribly popular or active so yay, no one is saying mean things?
Okay I went through all 7 pages and I had 69 relevant results. /Dies in a fit of laughter. Too perfect. So me.
Were people really trying to say that being earnest and over-interested as an insult...? I love that you're active and positive! Not everything can be happy and sunshine, but when things are sour, you don't just let it ruin an entire thing for you, and I really admire that about you. I just super do not get this new wave of hating on your own fandoms and characters that seems to be going on. That kind of attitude really uh, ruined Gravity Falls for me and after 2 years I'm thinking of maybe giving that a go again, and staying so very far away from tumblr and the fandom at large.
I've not really been in a good place for writing smut lately either, which usually means not much writing gets done at all. DX I finally finished one fic last night and feel a lot freer and I know you can break through your block and do it too! After all, once you get it written, you can always go back and edit! I understand your frustrations though, trying to write smut when you are not in the mood is just... ugh. So ugh.
I decided to get into Inuyasha at the least convenient time I possibly could. So, that's where I'm at. Balancing 5 other fandoms plus one-offs for fic exchanges and hoping I don't drown in my own tears. xD So far I've kept mostly on top of things and am even producing treats for the exchanges I am doing!

Date: 2018-09-14 10:49 pm (UTC)Boy, people just love to rain on other people's parades.
Writing has hit a wall, but that's okay. I've got a queue of 17 stories so I'm good.
Oh, check out this preview of Wonder Woman #58: http://heckyeahstevetrevor.tumblr.com/post/178062598471/so-late-but-i-blame-it-on-my-unintentional-hiatus

That sounds like an awesome challenge, at that!

Date: 2019-09-02 06:52 am (UTC)What a wonderful queue! I hope you had a fun time working through it!
And I'm so happy that Steve and Diana continue to be a thing in the comics, and in general I find it really well-written! My little shippy heart...

Yeah, I really start to feel like steering clear of engaging with fandom at large and just puttering around making your own stuff is the way to go! It's hard because I love talking with people, but seems like an increasingly large risk, for a lot of reasons. It's... a little sad, but you just have to work around it, I guess.
