Okay, I have to say that fictional history type things are one of my favorite things. I do hope you finish it 'cause that sounds so cool!
It's such a fun format! (Can you tell the Appendices in Lord of the Rings were some of my favorite things?) I did indeed finish it and am tentatively branching out into some more recent history now, but that's a lot more uncertain...

GAH, I've had this happen too and have ended up having to abandon things, and it's so frustrating!
