Open Thread: Oracle Hotline
Dec. 29th, 2017 09:38 amThe leadup to the holiday season basically destroyed me, but now that I have a bit of a break I finally have the time and energy to post this thread again!
--List the choices (not circumstances) that led your post recent character to his/her current predicament.
Oh goodness, I've actually already written full essays about the long and winding trail of choices that have led Kevin to where he is today, because it's particularly complex and interesting! A few include:
--Deciding to refuse to accept his bosses as authorities, to the point of physically assaulting them.
--Deciding to accept the help of his former friend and former enemy and reconcile with him (to be fair, this presented as almost no choice at all, as if he's never wanted anything so much).
--Interestingly, deciding to cheat less and less while aligned with his friend, while maintaining his arrogant bluster. Basically, his moral alignment seems to be shifting little by little, and this may be the most interesting story he's been in for a long time.
How are your character's choices going? I need to learn to make some better choices about my work load and time management, honestly. I finally finished my last class yesterday and TWO HOURS LATER had a full-blown head cold. I hate when my body holds off on being sick until I finally can relax...

Date: 2017-12-29 05:11 am (UTC)Hmmm, my current character is Giang who is a part dryad being gently seduced to join a werewolf pack by Deidre and Tyson. Deidre's the Alpha werewolf which translates to mom of everyone and Tyson's a fire mage who's been married to her for years. They're very poly and Giang's... well. She's spent her whole life convinced that anyone who likes her does so because of her dryad powers influencing them. Only to just find out that no, she can't influence people. Only other dryads and plants.
Giang's not dealing well with it currently. There are lots of tears going on. But Deidre and Tyson will help her through it. :D
I'm actually getting a ton done on the publishing side of things. The hubby and I planned on going to Las Vegas between Christmas and New Year's but it didn't happen for various reasons. So instead I'm updating my website (please go signup for my freebie and newsletter and tell me if the reply email is working!!!! *is mildly desperate to get outside confirmation that it's working*) and updating books to the latest format and working like a very busy bee.
Nice to have the time for it, even if the hubby's annoyed that we didn't get to have our vacation.
Good luck with the cold and the writing and Happy New Year, too! :D

Date: 2017-12-30 10:55 pm (UTC)Since I last commented here, I have finished a short story! (Well, just the rough draft, but it's done!) And I have tentative plans for two sequels. I don't know when I'll get to those because I have other things I want to write first.
I started a new short story back at the beginning of December. I haven't written anything since, however, because of the holidays. It's horror/science fiction written in 2nd PoV. I don't think I've ever finished writing something in 2nd PoV, but this time I'm determined to do it.
My current character, then, is Sam. They've just graduated from college (undergrad). They decided to move back home for the time being, but everything is...slightly different. Then slightly different becomes terrifyingly different, because they're pretty sure that door wasn't there a moment ago and where did this third floor come from?
Luckily, Sam has their best and oldest friend, Nadine, to help them through it. Over the phone. Luckily, there seems to be a phone in every room of the nightmare house.

Date: 2017-12-31 03:42 pm (UTC)Bruce chose to bring home a grieving boy years ago and it was the best decision he ever made. It's why he has light in his life now (and that can be said for Clark/Bruce stories, eh?) who gives him love and a purpose outside of his Mission.
Diana chose to leave Themyscira and now she's alone in Man's World, except for a visit from a certain spirit every Halloween since 1918.
I tried to get some more holiday stories posted this month but RL has been slamming me to the mat. :(

Date: 2018-05-02 05:56 am (UTC)WHAT? Oh my God, that is horrible and wonderful, imagine not having any faith in your relationships and then suddenly finding out nope, you could have totally had faith. T_T I love it.
Also, uhhhh, my being so far behind sucks because when I tried to sign up for the newsletter I got this message:
Bad Request
Your browser sent a request that this server could not understand.
Additionally, a 400 Bad Request error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.
Is that recent? I'm really sorry I didn't check sooner, but here it is at last, at least! D:

Date: 2018-05-03 02:56 am (UTC)Okay, the advantage of being MONTHS AND MONTHS BEHIND is that I can show up at random and ask you: did it work out? Did you get it done? Was it satisfying? Because it’s a great premise and sounds really creepy in the best of ways!

Date: 2018-05-08 04:00 am (UTC)GOD, doesn't it. I hope you're doing well--I feel like I'm trapped in a weird time loop because I'm about three months behind on everything still, so it's very very weird.

Ahhh, what a good summary of the appeal of Dick/Bruce! <3
