Open Thread: Oracle Hotline

So while we're doing WiP analysis (which I like because they can shift a little every week): What's the current word count on your WiPs? I know that doesn't mean a huge amount because 1000 words can be almost done or 10% done, but let's take a look!

My (shockingly large number for me) 4 WiPs are currently at:

1800 words (probably about 70% done, not sure)
300 words (probably about 30% done, it's a short story)
1900 words (about 50% done)
5000 words (about 70% done)

It's nice to be within shooting distance of two different stories! I have all this afternoon free so am hoping to move forward a little on all of them, maybe even to finish the very short one. How are things looking for you?

*laughs* Well, if you'd asked day before yesterday it would have been close to 50K. Today it's 1K as I started a new short story. Not sure how long it'll be but probably somewhere about 3-4K when finished. Maybe as high as 6K but I don't think the angst is going to come out.

It's a cute little fic (despite being in the middle of an active war with bombs and everything) where girl looks at her two best friends and occasional lovers and verbally smacks their heads together by announcing that's it, you're getting married to each other and then you're going to be my consorts and give me babies. *huge grin*

Had the idea and I had to write it.

Good luck on getting your 70% stories done! Free afternoons are so nice that way, aren't they? I spent my free time today doing taxes. Oh. Joy. *groans*

At least we don't owe anything. That's always nice. And hopefully tomorrow I can finish the short story and decide if I'm doing a contemporary romance novel next (text-pining!) or more in the same world as the short story above (fantasy). Still a complete toss-up at this point. I suspect I won't know what I'm going to write next until I sit down at the computer.

Of my two WiPs that are in the writing stage, I have: 899 words (maybe about halfway done); and 448 words (just started this one yesterday, don't know how long it'll be).

I've been going back and forth between fanfic (the two WiPs above) and original fic. The original fic (novel) is still slowly going forward - still in the world building and plotting stage.

I actually stalled out on my 70% story and realized I had to unravel it back to about 30%, so that was discouraging! But it'll work out better in the long run, I think...

Word counts can be so hard to judge when you're planning and worldbuilding! There's so much work and it all becomes underpinning--incredibly valuable, but not adding to a formal word count...
