mithen--How do you feel about the advice “Write the story you want to read”?
Oh, especially if writing fanfiction that seems like good advice! Obviously I'm all for maximizing personal enjoyment for fanfiction. It probably works well for professional work as well, though I suppose if you're aiming for a very specific audience (which you don't match up with) it wouldn't work. But if you write to an audience you don't connect with at some level I feel like eventually that will take a toll on you!
