Open Thread: Oracle Hotline
Feb. 19th, 2016 08:54 amI've been trying to get in the habit of typing out a few sentences on a story before I fall asleep even if the whole day has been a loss. I feel a lot better that way! Though things haven't been going badly, I've had some very good writing jags. I got prompted to write a sex pollen story in a different fandom, yay! And immediately the whole story has become about pining and denial and repressed feelings instead of sex, but... you know, I think that's always been the appeal of sex pollen as a trope for me, that it lets you have a character who's deeply in denial and eventually break them wide open, you know? There's little I like better.
How are you breaking your characters open this week? :)

Date: 2016-02-19 03:32 pm (UTC):D Sex pollen! Honestly, the denial and breaking loose emotions is the major draw of that trope for me, too.
Sadly, I haven't done much of anything with my characters this week. Monday was a no writing day. Tuesday I finished a story. Wednesday and yesterday both were so busy I just couldn't get any words done. It was one of those weeks. I'm hopefully I'll get back at it today but I have a cold (minor head cold) a short story to get ready for publication and the aftermath of an audit at work so I might not. *groan*
Hope you continue your evening writing streak!

Date: 2016-02-20 07:12 am (UTC)I'm frustrated because this time I'm writing it for a friends-turned-enemies pairing and they're going to manage to relapse into denial after it's over, noooo. No, don't do that, boys! Urrrgh, I will have to work to get some hope in there, they are being stubborn and pining and grouchy about it.
GOD, those stupid head colds, the ones just take the edge off so everything's a little bit harder and not worth it. Blah.
And I just got news yesterday that instead of getting ten hours a week less of work starting in April, thanks to a staffing emergency I'm probably getting 15 hours a week MORE work. I actually teared up in the meeting, I confess it. I'd been banking SO HARD on a glorious Golden Age of fannishness this year...
