You know, I don't have the time to give this realization the lingering it deserves, but I just realized something - Dorian has not only claws, but serpentine eyes, bite strength sufficient to eat metal, lava blood, and fire breath. While he's able to cover up the first two in public, and the latter two aren't overtly visible, by certain definitions he's a literal monster. And it really should phase him more than it does.
Like, Judah, when he was a little boy, heard his mother reading tales about monsters, identified with their amorality, and immediately self identified as a bad guy. A monster. And proceeded to live up to that. Meanwhile I am sure Dorian heard fairy tales and stuff during his time with his Dad, and here he is walking around looking like a demon with his slitted pupils and his claws, and completely rejects that label. Serathus is in his head bullying him all the time to give into the instincts of the dragon blood, saying that this is what he is and he should succumb to his nature (Serathus is projecting a lot here btw, dragons weren't always inherently terrible as I've mentioned before), and he still doesn't. Dorian looks in the mirror every day, sees a monster...and then glibly puts sunglasses on over those eyes, uses a stylus for his smart phone, and moves on with his life. Because he has to.

...sorry I suddenly had a lot of feelings.
